Da Bears

0-4. 14 straight losses. Tied-worst record in the league with the Carolina Panthers. The Chicago Bears have  a lot decisions to make coming up, do you tank? Trade players at the deadline and start from scratch? Where do you go? Well, with a Thursday night match-up in the brewing with the 2-2 Washington Commanders, the Bears are obviously underdogs (+7.0), but that doesn't feel right. Moreover, after an astonishing performance from Justin Fields Sunday vs the Broncos, the Bears look like they have hope. 28 points in a loss isn't the worst thing ever, sure it is heartbreaking, but there were positives shown. So being 7 point underdogs the week later feels like too much, especially vs Washington. Sure, the Bears only scored 7 points last year the Commanders in their 12-7 loss at home, but if the Bears play like they did Sunday, and keep that momentum going forward, this could be a whole new Bears. When the Bears were scoring at an elite clip late last season, it was all on the ground. As Fields, Montgomery and the Bears team in general actually led the NFL in total rushing yards, and were almost unstoppable.

Fields broke the NFL record for most rushing yards in a single game (178), and he was also the first QB in NFL history to record 1,000 rushing yards and 8 rushing TDs in a single season, while being absent the final 2 outings. Bottom line is that Fields was taking over, and was running all over teams with ease. However, this year has been different, Luke Getsy has drawn up less designed play calls for Fields, and even when he does call a play for him, the play gets blown up in the backfield, because teams have caught onto the Bears running game more than they were last year. Teams are forcing Fields to beat them in the air, rather than the ground. So the point is, this could be a different Bears team, because they still managed 28 points while Fields wasn't running for his life. Fields had a day throwing the ball, completing every pass in the first half except for the Hail Mary attempt to end the half. Fields threw for 4 TDs, and 335 yards in the air, with a 132.7 passer rating.

With this being said, the Bears have found what they have been looking for in Fields for years, and they proved America on Sunday that they can beat you in many ways, including on the ground and in the air. So I think the Bears cover that 7 point spread, and I am not saying they're a lock to win, but people are underestimating them, especially with Moore, Mooney, Johnson, Herbert and Kmet as weapons. So lets answer the main question, do you start over? The answer for me is no, I have been a Justin Fields supporter since day 1, I absolutely love his game, and it gets me excited week in and week out to watch. However, if the Bears end up with the #1 pick, I feel like you almost have to take Caleb Williams, because he is the best player on the board. If you don't, that is fine with me, because I am more than happy with Fields as the QB1, but they have to put him in more comfortable situations going forward, because the talent is there, but it needs to be utilized to it's max potential. So going forward, I would like to see the Bears run and throw, because now that teams know Fields can throw, they're going to adjust from just stopping his running game, so now he has options to beat you in many ways. I would like to see the Bears shake it up now, to throw different looks at defenses.
