FEELS about my Rational Argument
There are countless amounts of problems in today's world that I would be more than happy to debate with someone. However, in the case of the Rational Argument, I could only come down to one choice, and I ultimately chose to argue about the risks of screen time usage. I specifically chose to debate about the screen time usage in the younger generation, and how it correlates to higher cognitive problems in the future, as well as obesity problems, and mental health issues as well. In the post-COVID era, almost everything has transitioned online, whether it's ordering food, shopping, or just chatting. Either way, the post-COVID era has encouraged the younger generation to use their phones, computers, and gaming devices more than ever.
The issue at hand here isn't to do with the fact that these people are using the internet, it's the fact that it is becoming an addiction and a daily habit. While we were in the COVID state, everyone was using the internet, and I think the problem at hand here is that nobody really transitioned back to their real lives, the internet usage carried over to the post-COVID state, and that is when this becomes an issue. Picking up their phones and devices every couple of minutes has become a habit and a lifestyle. This often leads to addiction, as well as the issues I stated above, like obesity. Obesity for example, has more than tripled since the 1990's, and 1 in 5 children are now considered obese, and although the amount of fast food options has increased, we can't just skip over the fact that internet use has increased as well, likely accounting for some of those numbers.
The main point of my essay is to argue that future generations are being set up for failure. This is because everything is at their fingertips, and people are becoming attached and addicted more than ever. Obesity rates are skyrocketing, and mental health issues are through the roof. Now although there are positive influences online, and there is a possibly for one to gain communication skills through the use of the internet, it doesn't outweigh the amount of negatives my side brings in my opinion.
