Documentary Takeaways

Image
The viewing of my documentary (Icarus), I noticed many things that made me angry and emotional, but the worst is when you can see how they cheated and how unfair it really was. Imagine putting so much work in your whole life, and dedicating yourself to what you love while staying disciplined and doing everything right, just to lose to a cheater. It is unbelievable. One thing that I found that was surprising was how easy it seemed to pull off these cheats, and not getting caught for the longest time. The only questions that remain for me after viewing include asking how this was pulled off so easily? What is the reason for doing this? Why cheat? I just don't get it.                 However, I ultimately believe including research in our summaries takes away from the true meaning felt, and what we initially thought and believed. Furthermore, research which could skew how we...

Visual Literacy

Image
My interpretation on visual literacy is quite simple. Understanding a topic or learning from a picture/chart/etc. I have used visual literacy many times in my life, but the most common uses for me have to be when I am doing sports stats or writing about sports. I look at a ton of graphs and charts to help me determine and gather data, so that is the biggest use for me when it comes to visual literacy, and I find it very helpful.             When looking at a chart, the first things people notice are the good things, and the bad things. They don't look into the actual stats that are going into it though. This leads to a downfall when considering the pros and cons of visual literacy. When looking at a College Basketball efficiency rating chart, you look at who is in the top right corner, as that is the most efficient both offensively and defensively. Nobody ever looks at the little things and the other teams'. The only issue with visual literacy is ...

Challenges and experiences throughout College

Image
The transition from high school to college seems super scary, especially considering the fact that I went to a high school of 213 students. I chose North Central for a reason, it was close, small, and very good academically and athletically. I wanted to make the transition as minimal as possible and I think it worked. Now although class sizes may be slightly bigger than high school, it is nowhere near how I envisioned college being like, these class sizes are rather small compared to what I expected.                           The classwork can be a lot, but as long as you stay on top of it and don't procrastinate, college can be rather fun and easier than I thought. So far, it has been difficult, but I think college is going okay, and I am sure when track season comes around, time is going to absolutely fly. Time flew by so fast throughout High School because I did 3 sports for all 4 years of my High School ...

Challenges and experiences with Microtheme

Image
Throughout my experience in finding and finalizing the perfect microtheme, I encountered many challenges such as lack of evidence/support to backup my claims, as well as lack of human interest in the particular topic. The topic I ultimately decided on though was procrastination and how it effects me and why groups of students do it? How can I become a better worker and not get sidetracked so easily?                      I chose to ultimately write about this because I feel as if this is a major problem in today's society. With the use of electronics and the various apps at our fingertips, it only makes procrastination worse. Most people just procrastinate because they don't want to do their work, but now that there is apps available that allow 'never-ending scrolling' features, that only makes procrastination levels worse for the people that struggle with it because they get distracted too.    ...
