Documentary Takeaways

The viewing of my documentary (Icarus), I noticed many things that made me angry and emotional, but the worst is when you can see how they cheated and how unfair it really was. Imagine putting so much work in your whole life, and dedicating yourself to what you love while staying disciplined and doing everything right, just to lose to a cheater. It is unbelievable. One thing that I found that was surprising was how easy it seemed to pull off these cheats, and not getting caught for the longest time. The only questions that remain for me after viewing include asking how this was pulled off so easily? What is the reason for doing this? Why cheat? I just don't get it.

However, I ultimately believe including research in our summaries takes away from the true meaning felt, and what we initially thought and believed. Furthermore, research which could skew how we initially saw something, and change our views a bit. People tend to add research to their papers because they're forced, not because they want to. This takes away from the true pathos that is being shown, and the passion is becoming less and less. The more someone rants and rambles about a topic gives off more and more how passionate they feel about said topic. Icarus for example, if someone is writing an essay about their thoughts, the more they ramble and give their true feelings, the more authentic you is coming out with a mix of pathos.

Regardless, the film was astonishing and I would definitely recommend the movie to anyone interested. It gives an unbelievable view on just how everything was pulled off, and it does a great job portraying how it all went down as well. Icarus is a great film for anyone that wants something to be mad about, because it truly brought the anger out of me watching those guys cheat. I just couldn't imagine training my whole life just to lose to someone that was cheating, that has to be the worst feeling ever.

  1. Interestingly, to incorporate your outrage may be consistent with what the doc is doing, ... inviting our outrage over SO MUCH CHEATING!
