What I learned from CARD

Image
I was super stoked to have taken this class! I learned so much throughout my time in the hot, yet memorable Goldspohn classroom. We did a total of 3 major projects in this class, and they all taught me something different individually which I thought was super cool. The microtheme taught me that every word on a paper is valuable, as you had to fit all your ideas into a 1 page paper. Filler words just will not cut it, every word mattered, and that opened my eyes more and more, and now whenever I write papers, I always do a couple glances to avoid filler words.               The Documentary Project was super unique and very fun. It taught me how to watch and analyze a film through class concepts, and ethos, pathos and logos. I never really used ethos, pathos, or logos for a while, so using them again was super unique and fun. These will for sure help me write better papers in the future, b...

Shohei Ohtani Contract

Image
In the past week, the news broke out about Shohei Ohtani's contract, and it is unbelievable. A 10-year $700 Million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers marks the biggest contract signed in sports history by far. The former Los Angeles Angel has been given GOAT status, and because of this has made a huge name for himself in the baseball and sports world. Ohtani is a 2 time MVP award winner, and finished 2nd in 2022. Ohtani is dual threat player who can pitch, and hit, while being great at both. Shohei was on pace to break records this year hitting the ball if he never got hurt, and his pitching is remarkable, maintaining under a .300 ERA.              The finalists for Ohtani were the Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago Cubs, Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Angels, and San Francisco Giants. With 3 of these being California west coast teams, it was pretty clear and evident that is what Ohtani considere...

College Football Playoff Is Set

Image
The College Football Playoff Committee just had arguably the most difficult decision in the history of the playoff this year. The #1 and #2 teams should've been obvious, and they were. With the BIG10 Champion Michigan Wolverines claiming #1, and the PAC12 Champion Washington Huskies claiming #2. Now the question was, who are the final 2 teams? Well, the options were between a 1 loss, SEC Champion Alabama Crimson Tide squad, an undefeated ACC Champion Florida State Seminole squad, a 1 loss, back to back National Champion Georgia Bulldog squad, a 1 loss BIG12 Champion Texas Longhorn team, and a 1 loss Ohio State Buckeye squad.                This decision was extremely difficult, and the rankings headed into Champ Week were (1) Georgia, (2) Michigan, (3) Washington, (4) Florida State, (5) Oregon, (6) Ohio State, (7) Texas, (8) Alabama. Now the controversy lies within one game, and that...

College Basketball Update (Top 8 Teams)

Image
The College Basketball rankings this past week came out on Monday, as they always do, and I am going to highlight over some teams in which I like, and I don't like for March Madness. (1) Arizona. They can score an elite clip, the defense is very iffy, and they have a tendency of losing early in March. Take Princeton for example last year, (11) Xavier a few years' prior, and (12) Buffalo a year before that. Arizona landed Caleb Love from UNC this past offseason, however, I am not fully sold on him being the player to elevate a team to the next level. Sure, in 2022 they had that run as the (8) seed, however, he hasn't been known to be clutch as of late. (2) Kansas. Kansas is what you make of them. They are extremely well coached, and have 2 key returners in Kevin McCullar and Dujuan Harris Jr. KU also landed Michigan's Hunter Dickinson in the transfer portal over this past offseason. The thing I will say about KU is that they ne...

FEELS about my Rational Argument

Image
There are countless amounts of problems in today's world that I would be more than happy to debate with someone. However, in the case of the Rational Argument, I could only come down to one choice, and I ultimately chose to argue about the risks of screen time usage. I specifically chose to debate about the screen time usage in the younger generation, and how it correlates to higher cognitive problems in the future, as well as obesity problems, and mental health issues as well. In the post-COVID era, almost everything has transitioned online, whether it's ordering food, shopping, or just chatting. Either way, the post-COVID era has encouraged the younger generation to use their phones, computers, and gaming devices more than ever.               The issue at hand here isn't to do with the fact that these people are using the internet, it's the fact that it is becoming an addiction and a daily habit. While we were in the COVID state, everyone ...

The Greatest Rebuild Of All Time Is Happening Right In Front Of Our Eyes

Image
The Oklahoma City Thunder currently stand at 14-7, 2nd place in the Western Conference, with a point differential of (+7.2). This just so happens to also be the 3rd best point differential in the NBA, only behind the Celtics and Timberwolves. So what is it about this Thunder rebuild that makes it remarkable? Well, for that, we have to travel all the way back to the summer of 2019. The No. 6 seeded Oklahoma City Thunder were set to match off against the No. 3 seeded Portland Trail Blazers in the Western Conference Quarterfinals in a series that was highly anticipated. The Thunder were still led by their long-tentured all star, Russell Westbrook, and also had an MVP finalist, as well as a D-POY finalist in Paul George on his side. The Thunder were locked and loaded with aspirations of a title in the rear view mirror, and the first team in their way was Portland. Going down 2-0 in the first two games in Portland wasn't ideal for ...

What I learned about the library

Image
Throughout my experience here at North Central College, I have always had questions but really didn't know where the correct place to ask them would be. I later found out that the library would be that place for me. Using an entire class day to go visit the library was the best idea ever, it helped me learn how to utilize the website in order to help me find sources, learn new things, and to ultimately get a head start on any research paper with ease.                One interesting thing that Laura Cameron taught us throughout our time with her, is the use of key words and phrases. If you want your search results to be more accurate, the best way to do that is through the use of Search Engine Optimization (SEO). 2 ways to express SEO is through the use of key phrases, and more specific questions, with this, comes more concise and accurate answers to your questions. Through the use of...
